'Meet the Speakers' Dinner
Monday October 20, 2104
Join us for a “Meet the Speakers” event at the Faculty Club Historic building on campus.
Since 1902 the Faculty Club has been a secluded retreat, luncheon club, meeting place, tavern hotel, and party facility for faculty, administrative personnel, staff, alumni, and community members closely associated with Cal. Women have enjoyed full membership benefits for decades. The Club building is an architectural gem of Craftsman design, by architects Bernard Maybeck and John Galen Howard. It's listed internationally, as one of the finest examples of the style. The carved beams, the fireplaces, the stained glass windows all reflect Maybeck's awareness of a special northern California aesthetic.
Today, the Faculty Club is considered an architectural gem of Craftsman design and is listed internationally as one of the finest examples of the style. The carved beams, the fireplaces, the stained glass windows all reflect Maybeck’s awareness of a special northern California aesthetic. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 1982.
Incorporated in 1902, as a private, mutual benefit corporation, the Faculty Club’s member history is closely intertwined with the University’s. The Club’s illustrious membership roster has contained many professors famous in their fields, including several Nobel Laureates. Past members include many of the same men for whom campus buildings are named, and past and current Chancellors of the University.
This dinner offers a great opportunity to meet the speakers and colleagues in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Tickets cost $50 when ordered in advance with registration. Places are limited so please book early via the online registration system.
